Ecuatoriana – Live
Before the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Ecuadorian alternative music had a peculiar “sound.” Rock/pop indie melodies, guided by uncomplicated lyrics, fueled the fandom of the millennial generation that grew up amid internet culture, music festivals, and a circuit of underground venues. Experiencing the Ecuadorian alternative music scene at that time gave certain people a sense of belonging, bohemia, and entertainment. After the pandemic, this South American country’s sound, audience, and trends made a peculiar shift. What are the music, bands, and artists booming in today’s Ecuadorian soundscape? What is the younger generation listening to? In this episode, we invited Carla Vera, an Ecuadorian journalist, writer, and music marketer, to talk about the raw, pop, and underground contemporary music made in Ecuador.
