Ecuatoriana #8 (Alex Alvear)

Ecuatoriana is a radio show that digs and selects popular and alternative music made in the middle of the world—old, modern, and contemporary—for the Ecuayorquina diaspora. It plays music so you can feel Ecuador in New York. Today’s episode features host Marcos Echeverria live in conversation with celebrated musician and composer Alex Alvear. In the music of Alvear, jazz, funk, and rock find their inspiration in the Andes. In the ebb and flow of his life between the United States and Ecuador, the traditions and artists of Imbabura have significantly influenced his journey and his voice as a composer. Thus, his songs have been filled with endearing landscapes and stories: from his beginnings with Promesas Temporales (1983), his emblematic Equatorial (2008), the latin jazz of Mango Blue (1996), to the sonic cocktail of Wañukta Tonic (2015).
