Since jazz arrived in Ecuador at the beginning of the 20th century, the country’s traditional Afro and Indigenous ancestral music has nourished the genre. The 21st century saw the emergence of a series of jazz bands and groups that experimented through a constant conversation between tradition and modernity. To discuss this topic, we invited Ecuadorian music lover and researcher Carlo Ruiz to talk about the sounds and historical fluxes that defined Ecuadorian jazz history.
