Before the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Ecuadorian alternative music had a peculiar “sound.” Rock/pop indie melodies, guided by uncomplicated lyrics, fueled the fandom of the millennial generation that grew up amid internet culture, music festivals, and a circuit of underground venues. Experiencing the Ecuadorian alternative music scene at that time gave certain people a sense of belonging, bohemia, and entertainment. After the pandemic, this South American country’s sound, audience, and trends made a peculiar shift. What are the music, bands, and artists booming in today’s Ecuadorian soundscape? What is the younger generation listening to?
