Deejay Guest / Nitin Mukul

Next up we have Nitin Mukul, a multi-faceted music maker and visual artist from Queens. In the 1990s, Nitin was known as Urban Turban in the Western Massachusets rap group Unagi, where he also spun turntables with experimental acts like Wank Factor 7 (featuring J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.). His drumming talents further extended into the noise rock realm. Around 1999, his move to NYC marked a rebranding as DJ Disctraction, leading to weekly residencies in the Lower East Side, including Orchard Bar. He also became part of the rap group Himalayan Project, touring nationally. A dedicated vinyl enthusiast, Nitin’s collection and DJ sets freely blend underground hip hop, indie rock, a wide spectrum of South Asian, electronic, Bollywood, jazz, metal and more.
