DAR / The LGBT Network

Hosted by Los Herederos co-founder Naomi Sturm, Documenting as Resistance is a talk-based radio program exploring everyday people and their connection to neighborhood culture. A natural outgrowth of the organization wide community archiving initiative by the same name, Documenting as Resistance activates materials and discussions from the organization’s work in Diversity Plaza and Jackson Heights over the past several years. This May we talk with members of the LGBT Network, a local non-profit organization serving LGBT people, their families, and support systems in Long Island and Queens. The LGBT Network is a leader in creating and implementing solutions to address many of the greatest challenges that LGBT people face today – bullying in our schools, discrimination and harassment, lack of community and socialization, disproportionate burden of HIV, unsafe workplaces, lack of housing and service options for LGBT older adults, and a lack of LGBT-affirming and welcoming community services. Moreover they do this work bilingually in a quest to serve Queens’ diverse Latinx LGBT populations. Tune in to learn more about their work and efforts particularly as they relate to the Jackson Heights Nuevo Queens Pride initiative!
