In this episode, we sit down with dancer, choreographer, educator and cultural activist Cynthia Paniagua. A tried and true Queens girl, Paniagua grew up in the world’s borough. Born to a Peruvian mother and Puerto Rican father, Paniagua’s creative work has long been devoted to the re-discovery of roots and the creation of diasporic connections through embodied movement and tradition. En uno de los lugares más icónicos de Queens, hablamos con Gianina Enriquez, organizadora comunitaria del Queens Museum, donde supervisa programas como La Jornada y la despensa cultural de alimentos del museo, y contribuye a varios programas comunitarios, incluido Hecho Local. Hosted by NYC’s own Chichadelico on the Sonicycle decks, Peru York traces the South American nation’s influence on tropical music since the 1960’s via a complete album analyzes in each segment. December’s episode was an “Especial Navideña” with Los Destellos’ 1971 album Constelación. Constelación was the 6th studio album released by Los Destellos and combines psychedelic rock & Latin rhythms to create what is known today as the origins of Psychedelic Cumbia.
